Kronstadt Day Tour

Join us on a day tour to Kronstadt, a unique town-fortress and naval base on Kotlin Island, just outside St. Petersburg. The site was chosen by Peter the Great himself, and over three centuries this fort — the most powerful in Europe by the mid-19th century — guarded the city against its enemies.

Along the way you’ll hear about Russia’s wars with Sweden, learn why Peter I chose this particular spot, and discover the principles behind the fortress’s construction.

Itinerary

  • Begin at Fort Konstantin, an engineering marvel. Walk its corridors, see the old gun emplacements and climb the bastions for sweeping sea views.
  • See the Admiralty walls and learn their history, then hear the story of St. John of Kronstadt, the much-loved archpriest who served at St. Andrew’s Cathedral here for more than 50 years.
  • Finish at the magnificently restored Naval Cathedral, whose architecture blends Byzantine tradition with modern ideas.
